Can I rent out my cottage?

Are you planning on buying a property as a short term rental or for personal use and renting it out on occasion to help with expenses?   Do Your Homework!!   There are some areas that don’t allow rentals at all unless your cottage is zoned commercial and others that allow rentals but you must be registered with the town/township and follow the guidelines.  Other areas are in the throws of bringing in guidelines for anyone using their property as a short term rental.  Contact the town or township office where you are considering buying, either by phone or their website, to find out what their short term rental policies/bylaws are.    I just thought I would mention this, as many buyers today are considering this as an option for their waterfront cottage or residential purchase and you need to have your questions answered before you buy.
